O.B. Whaley is implementing a wonderful program for our students called Saturday Academy! Saturday Academy provides enrichment opportunities for all students while allowing our students to make-up missed days of attendance. Missed days of school also result in lost revenue to our schools. Saturday Academy allows us to recover lost learning as well as lost funding!

Rewards and incentives in schools play a powerful role in influencing student's food choices and life-‐long eating habits. It is the intent of the Child Nutrition Services Department to not only provide nutritious meals at breakfast and lunch service but to act as a resource in nutrition education for teachers and parents. CNS recommends that teachers and parents use celebrations, rewards and incentives that do not undermine the health of students and/or reinforce unhealthful eating habits. Non-‐food rewards and incentives should be used as the first choice to encourage positive behavior (game supplies, pencils, erasers, stickers and other small school supplies instead of food). If food is used as a reward or part of a celebration, healthy choices with appropriate portion sizes are required (see attachment for ideas). Likewise classroom parties should also be limited during the school.

Beginning Monday, October 29, 2018, the office staff will no longer call classrooms to inform students of snacks and/or lunches being dropped off in the office. Parents must ensure their child knows a snack or lunch will be delivered for them prior to leaving home in the morning. If your child fails to pick up his or her lunch from the office, he or she will receive a school lunch at the parent's expense. Unclaimed lunches or snacks can be picked up by the parent or child at the end of the school day.Click on the title for Spanish and Vietnamese translations.
